| Thank you to all who visited us last week for tours and the ribbon-cutting of the 2124 Building, our new residence on the Bob Dougherty Campus. This two-flat at 2124 W. Warren Blvd. will provide more housing for the SLM Community. That’s in addition to the 100-plus residents we currently serve with housing, and there are nearly 300 more people who live in the community and come to campus for employment and educational services every year. It’s a busy time at Saint Leonard’s Ministries. We are looking to the future, and the 2124 Building is the bridge. |
| As we prepare to break ground on campuswide renovations in August, the 2124 Building will serve as temporary housing for Saint Leonard’s House and Grace House residents. Those two residences will undergo construction to create single rooms for all, install air conditioning for the first time, add accessibility features and make cosmetic upgrades throughout. We were so pleased to be joined at the ribbon cutting by Ald. Walter Red Burnett, former Vice Mayor Walter Burnett Jr., Saint Leonard’s Ministries Chaplain and Church Relations Manager Chezeray Moore and SLM Intake and Housing Manager David Harris. The ribbon was officially cut by Etta Johnson, whose family sold the building to Saint Leonard’s after her father, our longtime friend Willie German, passed away. |
In addition to the German family, we have many to thank for making this beautiful home possible:
- The Board of Directors who quickly said yes and moved on this opportunity
- The Capital Campaign Leadership Committee
- The SLM Facilities Team, who helped with cleaning, construction preparation, finishing touches, and so, so much more
- The SLM Construction Training Program, who helped with construction preparation, some framing out, and the vision as to where to add second bathrooms on each floor
- The SLM Culinary Training Program alumni, who prepared snacks and treats for the Open House
- General Contractor John Cook and Just Builders
- The Dewan Foundation and Ailey Solar for adding solar energy production to keep our costs down and to lessen our climate impact
As I told the crowd gathered on Warren Boulevard on Thursday:
“To all who will join our community and live here someday, I have two words: WELCOME HOME!”
