Marshawn Feltus is what success looks like at Saint Leonard’s Ministries.

He’s a health and wellness entrepreneur who operates ACT Yoga, the only brick-and-mortar yoga studio on the city’s West Side. He has opened classes specifically for the women of Grace House as he trains people to understand the physical and mental benefits of using the practice to relieve stress and spark personal growth. He was the first Black man to be featured on the cover of Yoga Journal magazine in 2018.

Our partnership with him is truly reciprocal.

Feltus enrolled in our Culinary Skills Training Program, which led him on a journey to run a catering business and hone his kitchen skills in Jamaica and Spain. And when we call, he always answers to serve as a guest speaker to share his story and inspire others.

On October 15, we will honor Feltus with the Distinguished Alumni Award at the Heart of Saint Leonard’s: A Night of Fellowship.

Most recently, Feltus has joined our Board of Directors, and he believes re-entry work is the way to pave the path forward for people “who have lost their way for whatever reason.”

“Life happens. People make decisions, as a kid or even as an adult, that they will come to want to redeem. If you don’t have that path, despair can cause people to do worse perhaps. In re-entry, you want to cultivate people who have lost their way – and help them find their way.”

“For those who are committed to re-entry, you pour into people what you hope to get out of them. And sometimes it takes more than one or two times.”

Thank you, Marshawn Feltus, for allowing us to serve you and paying it forward by serving the Saint Leonard’s Community. Your success casts a light that allows others to see their future.
