Saint Leonard’s Ministries Explores Partnership with Loyola University School of Law

Saint Leonard’s has been the creator, innovator, and leader in supporting retuning citizens for nearly 70 years. A key to the Saint Leonard’s Community’s successes are the wrap-around services for our residents on our campus and at their fingertips.

As part of our commitment to holistic services and the Saint Leonard’s Ministries community, we provide a unique model of re-entry that offers housing, peer mentoring, mental health, physical health, substance-use recovery, case management, education, workforce development and more.

Now we are working toward offering support for the various legal issues that community members face. We’re taking steps to identify individual and collective needs while we seek partnerships with entities that can support this mission.

Today, we are pleased to announce the exploration of such a partnership with Loyola University Chicago School of Law.

This proposed collaborative relationship could provide the assistance of law students to help the Saint Leonard’s community receive:

• Memoranda on specific legal issues
• Education and training via LUC Law’s Criminal Law Practicum
• Guidance on expungement, sealing, executive clemency and pardons, waivers of fees and fines, and driver’s license reinstatement

For their service with us, LUC Law students could potentially receive academic credits for pro bono volunteer services as part of a course.

We offer a special thanks to Saint Leonard’s Board Member Breanna Kantor for connecting us with LUC Law. We will continue to explore this volunteer opportunity and welcome further discussions between the Saint Leonard’s community, LUC Law and any entities that would support this mission.
